Aside from the boss, there's a couple other things players can do if they're not in a huge Guild. You can go around and gather 'Essence of Courage', an end-game crafting material that's required for just about everything good. The essence are literally all over the place, and can only be found in Valhalla outside of a few daily quests. So for players looking to make a quick lump of gold, Valhalla might be a good place to go once you're done with your dungeons.
The other thing players can do is obvious; PvP! Grab a few guild mates and have at it. Killing other players increases your Guild's rank on the ladder and, gives you 'Winner's Coins' ( a currency that you can buy potions and a mount with ). Just a tip, but try to stay away from the center of the map. That's where all the large Guilds will be at fighting over the boss, and you don't want to be caught in the crossfire!
Tips:
- Again, stay away from the center of the map if you're alone, or with a small team! They'll eat you there.
- If you have consumables like foods, scrolls, Edun/Njord etc. Use them! Also make sure to have a healthy supply of potions, scrolls, and bandages. You will need them.
- If you're gathering Essence of Courage, there's a lot of competition. Be prepared to defend yourself against others at all times. If possible, try to bring a guild mate or friend to help make gathering safer.
- Be somewhat courteous. Not everyone's there to gank you. If someone's leaving you alone, it's polite to leave them alone too. There's plenty of resource on the map, after all.
- Stay alert near the spawn points on the map. Large Guilds frequently wipe, and get wiped at the boss. You don't want to accidentally draw their attention when they're trying to get back to the alter.
That about wraps up this little guide. I'm including a small YouTube video that has clips of my Guild going at it in Valhalla as a reference to how crazy it can get. Something I didn't mention, is Valhalla can get quite laggy with tons of players fighting. It's also pretty stressful on your graphics card as well, and can dip your FPS quite a bit. I've found turning settings down helps, but the lag will probably still be a factor for some people. I get it too sometimes.
And...just realized I'm dumb. Erased my name in above picture, only to have it all over in the video. I'm special sometimes.
